Unexpected: Stetson's Story
Van, earlier this year you came out to my boarding stable to do a saddle assessment on my Arabian gelding, Stetson V. His back was sore following hill work and I needed to know how to solve the problem. Conformationally the horse was correct and the saddle passed your critical check points.
The problem you pointed-out was an overdeveloped right shoulder that was pinching under the saddle when going down hill. This pinching caused a rib to go out under the shoulder-blade which
showed as loin soreness. As a competitive trail rider a sore loin is the kiss of death.
I put your recommendation to work - I lifted the whole saddle up an inch through additional padding to allow the shoulder to swing freely. It worked like a charm. We've competed in 4 NATRC rides since and Stetson won all 4 in our weight class. He even got the rare perfect score of 100!
Thank you for helping us!
What you do is very special!
